Higher And Higher

It’s terrible, I’m supposed to be writing about getting higher rankings using SEO, but with every fiber of my body just wanting to dance, it’s pretty much impossible to write anything coherent:

Check out the move at 1min37, is that awesome or what?

Just sit back, and have a fantastic 3 minutes just taking it in, before reading the rest of this post!

Right, higher and higher rannnnkings (yeah, it’s still playing in the background), I recently mentioned Think Links 2012, and I’ve now gotten around to reviewing it.

Here’s my take on Think Links 2012

(let’s see if you can guess what my take is, as I’ve put you into happy Jackie Wilson mood;-), nah, seriously, it’s fantastifabulous. (97 points in scrabble?)

Think Links 2012 is a great SEO course

The presentation is rather unusual, in the sense that it is delivered as a webpage (.html), and rather than being a step-by-step, or endless background of SEO, it’s a collection of short articles on pretty much any SEO subject you can imagine. There is a big index at the beginning (see image on the right), but I ended up reading the whole thing straight through.

Stuff like camouflage sites (a take on feeder sites, but with a neat little twist), sacrificial links (again, old concept, but applied in a totally new way), different ways of using and repurposing content very quickly, the list goes on. There are tons of goodies in Think Links 2012, so double thumbs up – get this, go through it, and if you really don’t get at least a dozen AHA-moments, just let me know and I’ll arrange a refund for you!

(note, if you’re totally new to SEO and/or have nothing to SEO, then don’t ‘invest’ your time by learning yet more about SEO. Get the foundation in place, then get the Think Links 2012 guide later, doesn’t look like it’s going to run away;-)

The second SEO course I checked out is SEO Hybrid which you can find here:

http://www.warriorplus.com/linkwso/dmlg9m/6096

Now, first thing that annoyed me was that I couldn’t get the content on my iPad, because it’s all done in flash. The content of SEO Hybrid is split into 3 sections, one for beginners, one for intermediates and one for the advanced.

I’ll keep it short: It’s an ok course, but nothing sensational. The fact that they suggest you use yahoo site explorer to find competition links (Yahoo Site Explorer has been defunct for a few months now, so I’m wondering if this is just a re-launch, and they didn’t bother to edit out that Yahoo Site explorer part?), adds to my general feeling “Standard & Poors rating of approximately Belgium”. (no offense to Belgium, they’ve got the best chips (fries for you non British English speakers;-) in the world – I know because I used to live in Mons for 3 years)

They do what so many others do as well: here is a strategy for doing step-by-step SEO, first do some of this, then some of that, and you will rank. And like so many others, their strategy succeeds, which tells me one thing:

It doesn’t really matter WHAT you do in terms of backlinking, as long as you ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING, and do it consistently.

I have yet to have scientific evidence that doing social bookmarking after blog-commenting is any better than doing a BMR campaign followed by a AMR blast.

So, although not bad (apart from the Yahoo Site Explorer snafu), it’s not sensationally outstanding (well, I do like the fact that they’ve split it into 3 levels, so you don’t need to crawl through endless hours of video just t o get to the meat when you already know how to set up a site…)

Le voila, double thumbs up for Think Links 2012, a thumb plus a thumb after being hit with a mallet for SEO Hybrid.

Now, to take it really higher and higher, how about for a sec, we take a step back, and look at WHY we’re doing SEO in the first place?

Typically, we do SEO so we get free traffic to affiliate offers, which then hopefully convert into sales and juicy affiliate commissions, right?

Well, although this general model still works (despite many telling you that the world is ending soon), there are other models that may – if they are right for YOU – give you much easier affiliate commissions.

Over the last few days I’ve been talking to Holly Cotter, who used to make a VERY decent living from her 100% passive income affiliate sites, until she switched over to doing “offline marketing”.

Well, turns out she misses the ‘passive’ income from affiliate marketing, so she’s come back with a vengeance, and she’s found her new ‘easier than traditional affiliate marketing’ fortunes in, well, mobile apps.

As I have absolutely NO idea when it comes to mobile apps (heck, the only additional app I’ve installed on my iPhone is Qrafter, because, well, I use my phone for making phone-calls…), I’ve arranged a Webinar with Holly, and to make sure most people can make it, we’re doing it this coming Saturday:

https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/824166825

In this webinar, Holly is going to show us, well, as the name suggests how to make oodles of money with mobile apps, cool, ey?

Ah, in case you don’t know Holly, she is one of the 5 people I know who are actually making a really solid income online, not just rehashing stuff and blowing hot air …

higher & higher

Veit

PS: is it just me, or did Jackie wink at me?

PPS: just added another post Cowdung & Sigmund – 2 reasons why you don’t make money online! (you just watch me rank for the term “cowdung & sigmund”;-)
